WHAT IS CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid found in the hemp plant. Depending on the grower, CBD can comprise the majority of a plant’s phytocannabinoid content. However, it is just one of dozens of different cannabinoids and phytochemicals found in hemp. CBD is one of the most popular. CBD is a non-intoxicating component of hemp that possesses a wide range of beneficial properties. It does not cause a high, unlike THC. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) regulates our bodies functions and it uses naturally-occurring endocannabinoids to maintain health and homeostasis. As a phytocannabinoid, CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system and promotes a sense of balance and wellness.
WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM?
Every single person has an endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endocannabinoids (such as anandamide) and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). Endocannabinoids interact with various receptors, and this molecular interaction communicates messages to the body’s central nervous system. We are still far from a complete understanding of the human ECS, but it is an incredibly exciting topic of interest.
CBD is a phytocannabinoid (‘phyto’ meaning plant-based) from hemp that shares a similar molecular structure as the body’s natural endocannabinoids. As such, it interacts with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits.
WHAT IS CBD OIL?
CBD oil is extracted from hemp that has high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) and low levels (less than 0.3%) of THC. Raw hemp extract can be used in paste form, or mixed with other oils such as coconut, olive, MCT, or hemp seed oil to produce what’s commonly known as a ‘CBD oil.’
The cannabidiol (CBD) content of CBD oil can vary tremendously across different brands since manufacturers use an assortment of techniques to make their CBD oil.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP & MARIJUANA?
Hemp and marijuana are the same plant, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa L. They have a drastically different genetic profile though. Industrial hemp is its own ‘variety’ of Cannabis sativa L. (the word ‘strain’ is not applicable), while marijuana can exist as Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. There is major difference in cultivation between hemp and cannabis.
Typically speaking, industrial hemp is very fibrous, with long strong stalks, and has few flowering buds. Marijuana forms of Cannabis sativa are typically smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds.
Generally speaking, marijuana has higher amounts of THC than it does CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, has a high amount of CBD in most instances, and only trace amounts of THC. Fortunately, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people looking for the health benefits of the plant without the ‘high.’
Hemp has been used historically to make food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so much more. The term ‘CBD oil’ refers to hemp-derived oil with THC levels below 0.3%.
IS CBD OIL LEGAL?
CBD Oil is legal in several countries but the best is to check the legality of it in your own country!
HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CBD? WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?
For the best shelf life, please keep your CBD oil in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. Doing so will help to preserve the hemp extract (you can even keep it in the refrigerator!) for as long as possible. If stored properly, CBD oil can have a shelf life of a year or even longer.
WILL I FAIL A DRUG TEST IF I TAKE CBD PRODUCTS?
Hemp may contain THC levels below 0.3%. Most drug tests and drug screenings scan for the presence of THC or its metabolites, and consuming a hemp-based product may result in THC in your body for varying periods of time.
WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD OF USE?
CBD Capsules, CBD Oils, and CBD Gummies are made for oral consumption. If you don’t like the flavor of the oil options, capsules or gummies are a great alternative. CBD oils work under the tongue, and held there for 60-90 seconds. CBD Capsules can be swallowed whole with a drink of water.
WILL I GET HIGH?
No. Hemp extract products are all made from industrial hemp, which has THC levels below 0.3%). There is no intoxicating or mind-altering effect from taking our products.
